Using felt and objects found in a style of assemblage called "biopunk," which she describes as "a concept, a dream, that describes the world of the future when, due to various scientific discoveries, human civilization becomes a harmonious part of the biosphere," Shinkovskaya creates creatures whose existence is a reuse, inherently embracing notions of enchantment, the ghostly, and the mysterious. Her works evoke something known but not familiar, and each observer locates the strangeness in the beautiful, the everyday, the places we forget to look, and the subconscious constructed through their own experiences.
